The links listed below are intended to serve as a resource for service providers, members of Somali communities in the US and those who have an interest in learning more about Somalia and Somali people residing in the US.

The SFCN links cover updates on news events in immigrant and refugee communities, immigrant and refugee rights in addition to other issues important to the Somali community in the US.

Amnesty International FGM
Amnesty International FGM Page offers comprehensive background and analysis about the practice of FGM.  Web surfers can browse, for instance, brief (and somewhat dated) country reports to find out where and how long FGM has been practiced in countries around the world. The geographical distribution of the practice, the effects of FGM, FGM and female identity are just a few among the many extensively covered themes discussed on this page. 

Rising Daughters Aware
Rising Daughters Aware is an excellent resource page for those in search of advocacy, peer support, and medical attention for complications that arise from FGM.   This site also includes a links page.

MediaHouse Egypt

Lawyers Committee for Human Rights
Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (LCHR):  works to promote human rights both domestically and abroad; a significant share of their work focuses on the rights of asylees, refugees and immigrants.

Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights is one of the largest mid – west based non – governmental human rights organizations working internationally.

American Civil Liberties Union & Immigrant Rights
American Civil Liberties Union & Immigrant Rights (ACLU):  outlines the rights guaranteed to immigrants and refugees residing in the US and provides frequent updates on developments pertaining to US immigration policy. 

American Immigration Lawyer Association
American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA):  educates immigration lawyers and the greater community about changes in US immigration policy.

Arab - American Anti – Discrimination Committee
Arab - American Anti – Discrimination Committee (ADC):  is a grassroots civil rights organization that aims at defending the rights of people of Arabic descent residing in the US.

Asylumlaw.org
Asylumlaw.org is a source of information, case support, legal tools, etc. for asylum seekers in the US and other parts of the world.

Center for Gender and Refugee Studies
Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS):  contains case summaries, legal briefs, research on country conditions, and information on CGRS campaigns for gender – based asylum cases.

Citizens and Immigrants for Equal Justice
Citizens and Immigrants for Equal Justice (CIEJ): is a coalition of individuals and families campaigning against recent negative immigration policy reforms.  Their site is currently under construction (as of 6/6/03).

Catholic Legal Immigration Network
Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC):  acts a legal support agency for a growing national network of Catholic immigration programs.

Defense Immigration Project (DIP)
Defense Immigration Project (
DIP):  is a project of the New York State Defenders’ Association (http://www.nysda.org) which provides legal support and counseling to New York defense lawyers and others who represent or assist immigrants in criminal justice and immigration systems, as well as to immigrants themselves. 

Lesbian & Gay Immigration Rights Task Force
Lesbian & Gay Immigration Rights Task Force (LGIRTF):  focuses on providing resources for confronting the specific legal issues that lesbian, gay, transgender, and HIV+ members of immigrant and refugee communities face.
