The "Hawala"
in Somali Society Recent actions by the United States and its coalition to crackdown on the financial support network for Al-Qaeda has brought attention to the “Hawala” financial system used by many Somalis to send remittances to their relatives in Somalia. A concept of debt and credit transfer, Hawala’s roots lie in early Islamic commercial practices.
